2016 Local Government Elections
The number of seats in the Masilonyana Local Municipality decreased to 19 seats for the 2016 Local Government Elections. There were 31,153 registered voters in the local municipality for the 2016 local government elections. The highest voter turn-out was achieved in Ward 10 with 64.06 %. The lowest voter turn-out in the municipality was in Ward 5 with 49.38 %. The voter turn-out achieved in the 2016 municipal elections was 58.26 %.
Following the 2016 local government elections, the African National Congress was returned as the majority party with 12 seats. The Democratic Alliance holds 4 seats, the Economic Freedom Fighters holds 2 seats and the Freedom Front Plus holds 1 seat in the Council.
2011 Local Government Elections
The Masilonyana Local Municipality has 21 seats. There were 31,884 registered voters in the local municipality for the 2011 local government elections. The highest voter turn-out was achieved in Ward 1 with 61.71 %. The lowest voter turn-out in the municipality was in Ward 5 with 42.46 %. The average voter turn-out achieved in the 2011 municipal elections was 54.83 %.Following the 2011 local government elections, the African National Congress was returned as the majority party with 18 seats. The Democratic Alliance holds 2 seats whilst the Congress of the People and the Freedom Front Plus obtained 1 seat each in the Council.
