Shield
The shield has in the central part two green peaks with flat upper edges to allude to the koppies of the area and specifically to the two hills Masilo and Masilonyana.

Salt
Below the two green koppies are two white peaks symbolizing salt mining in the Soutpan area.

Monument
The shield has in its chief a representation of the Winburg Monument to represent the people of the municipality.

Water
At the base of the shield there is a heraldic fountain symbolizing Verkeerdevlei and the importance of water.

Diamond
The salt peaks or mounts are each charged with a blue diamond to reflect the mineral riches of the area.

Crown
The shield is crowned consisting of mealies and sunflowers to acknowledge the importance of agriculture to the people and the municipality.
